Resolution on Measure U
WHEREAS, the Marina Democratic Club strives to promote the best interests of the city's residents and businesses in a transparent and competent manner; and
WHEREAS, the Marina Community deserves a transparent and accountable government; and
WHEREAS, the Marina City Council has voted to place Measure U on the November 5, 2024 ballot; and
WHEREAS, Measure U fails to address the concerns of the residents: it is vague as to locations, costs, project designs and type/style of improvements; and
WHEREAS, the Marina City Council failed to adequately and competently evaluate alternate funding sources; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has not pursued nor received state grants that may be necessary to complete some of the projects set forth in Measure U; and
WHEREAS, Measure U does not set forth the maximum interest rate on the bonds; and
WHEREAS, the final cost of each project will not be determined until real property is purchased; and
WHEREAS, the information provided to the voters is based upon the City's projections and estimates only, which are not binding upon the City.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: the Marina Democratic Club opposes Measure U and urges a NO vote on Measure U.
PASSED AND ADOPTED: with one abstention by a vote of the members of the Marina Democratic Club present on the 24th day of August, 2024.
